On June 12 the
DHL Bangkok Lions Mini Rugby Union hosted the Caledonia
Asia Rugby Tens day at Bangkok Patana School Sports
Complex.
Many parents turned out to
watch more than 150 children play tens rugby in all age
groups and despite the heat, all children played in
either a Cup or Plate final and each child received a
medal donated by Sponsor Caledonia Asia.
With all age groups assembling
at 8:30am and FM 107 Drive Time DJ Russell Jay acting as
MC and providing music throughout the morning, the day
culminated in a presentation ceremony shortly after
midday all set in a splendid family environment with a
free BBQ provided by BLMRU.
In the 4 to 6 year age group,
which has seen the biggest improvement in the
development of rugby skills, The Cats won the Cup final
two tries to one against The Wasps, whilst in the Plate
final The Harlequins beat The Warriors four tries to
one.
The 7 to 8 year age group saw
The Wanderers beat The Vagabonds three tries to two in
the last moments of extra time in the Cup final, while
in the Plate final The Crusaders beat the Sharks five
tries to four.
In the 11 to 12 year age group
The Marauders beat the Barbarians 1’s in the Cup final,
while the Barbarians beat the Aliens in the Plate final
and both the 9 to 10 year and 13 to 17 age groups saw
fewer numbers this week due to several of the
international schools closing for their summer break.
The Hurricanes beat The Typhoons and The Falcons beat
The Eagles to win their respective age group cups.
BLMRU
Chairman Bruce Hill said: “We would like to again thank
Caledonia Asia for their support in making our second
competition day a truly fun event and the standard of
rugby continues to surprise.”
