The Lions Week 6

Dear All,

Due to the Bangkok Masters soccer tournament being held this weekend, we are only able to play on the back fields within the main school complex and as this will not enable us to create the right atmosphere, we felt that we it would be better to hold this at another time and we will advise revised date next week.

So this week we are on the back pitches inside the school complex and the coaches now have now selected competitive teams both for weekly matches and the tournaments ahead. Just a reminder of the start times:

  • Under 6’s and Under 8’s start at 9.00 a.m.
  • Under 10’s and Under 12’s Start at 10.00 a.m.
  • Under 14’s and Under 18’s start at 10:45 a.m.
Important Notices
Our under 10,s and 11’s will be playing St Andrews
School from Singapore on Wedesday, 8th June. Kick off will be at 3.00pm at Bangkok Patana School. Please advise your coaches this Saturday if you can play, mum and dad will need to arrange transport home.

Our under 15's and 14’s will also play Singapore tourists on Monday 20th June at 3.00pm again at Bangkok
Patana
School. Please let Gary Sterling (AKA Mary!) know your availability.

Next Week, on 11th June, we will have Brian Moore , David Campese , Richard Loe and Justin Sampson to run you through your paces in coaching clinics, it should be a fun and entertaining morning so make sure you have your autograph books with you.

This year's tour will likely be to KL and will cost approx. Baht 15,000.- for Players with Mums and Dads coating approx. Baht 17,000.-.

I will firm up costs nearer the time, I need an expression of interest whether you would like to go or not please e-mail to bhillach@loxinfo.co.th or info@bkklionsrugby.org.
Remember as always, you will need to bring your BOOTS, SUN CREAM and MOUTH GUARD.

It is essential you turn up for Warm up and Coaching Sessions, if not you will find yourself on the bench or doing fitness during the game, remember you are part of a team. A reminder of the age group criteria is presented below:

Celebrity Function
On the 11th June we are organizing three former international rugby players to come to Bangkok as a curtain raiser before the 2005 British & Irish Lions test series commences in New Zealand. As earlier advised, they will run a coaching clinic for all age groups in the morning and in the evening we will hold a dinner with each of these celebrities speaking. We will be seeking out parents to buy tables from this week, a table of 10 is Baht 25,000.- and for the arithmetically challenged amongst you, this works out at Baht 2,500.- per ticket. To break even we need to sell 52 tables and if every parent of a Lions player and a minimal two friends who are not attend then we will hit this target.
We still need to sell about 8 tables so please bring along cash for payment this week and we will pass you your tickets. A big thank you to Swiss Air for sponsoring Brian Moore’s flight and also to Cris Dunning and colleagues for sponsoring the one of Richard Loe. Further sponsorship opportunities still exist and for those interested please contact me using the e-mail addresses advised earlier. Please support your Club for what will be a very exciting day.

Please also read the Good Coach and then the Good Parent Guide as issued by the RFU; please do not be offended - these were written by an English committee after all, however, they make good sense.

We would like those that do not have kit or those wishing to register to turn up 30 minutes before their allotted kick off time and ask for Bob Merrigan - yes, that rather silly man who can usually be spotted wearing bright pink shorts...

The aim of the Lions league is to give the children a chance to display their skills. Parents do please let us have your thoughts - but remember, this is not a democracy so don’t be too offended if your comments are ignored! Please come on the field and help coach the children, someone will help you if you have not done it before, and give the committee can get a feedback as to how it is all going.
