Dear All,
Well done to all those that came along last week, we
again had over 180 players.
This week we are again on the normal pitches on the
sports complex opposite the school. We will try and sort
out the competitive teams after week 4 in advance of our
proposed 7’s day on Saturday, 21st May and
the first three weeks were focused refreshing basic
rugby skills.
There seemed to be some confusion last week over the
start times and these are again clarified below along
with the age group criteria.
-
Under 6’s and Under 8’s start at 9.00 a.m.
-
Under 10’s and Under 12’s Start at 10.00 a.m.
-
Under 14’s and Under 18’s start at 10:45 a.m.
Please
turn up a little early this week as our mouth guards
have arrived and please allow suitable time to mould
these in hot water before playing contact - best to
arrive a little early, seek out one of the committee
members, get and fit your mouth guard. Do not loose
these as a replacement will cost THB 400.-.
Remember that you will need to bring your BOOTS and SUN
CREAM.
It is essential you turn up for Warm Up and Coaching
Sessions, if not you will find yourself on the bench or
doing fitness during the game - remember that you are
part of a team and a large link is missing if you are
not there learning what everyone else is.

To
encourage all of our rugby players, we are now eligible
to play for Thailand, and national selectors will turn
up on various weeks to assess your progress. We need to
encourage the under 16’s to come down, if you know any
or your mates are slacking get them to come down we can
then go back to playing 15 a side rugby.
On the 11th June we are organizing three
former international rugby players to come to Bangkok as
a curtain raiser before the 2005 British & Irish Lions
test series commences in New Zealand. They will run a
coaching clinic for all age groups in the morning and in
the evening we will hold a dinner with each of these
celebrities speaking. We will be seeking out parents to
buy tables from this week, a table of 10 is Baht
25,000.- and for the arithmetically challenged amongst
you, this works out at Baht 2,500.- per ticket. To break
even we need to sell 52 tables and if every parent of a
Lions player and a minimal two friends who are not
attend then we will hit this target. Sponsorship
opportunities exist those please contact me using the
email address at the end of this newsletter. Please
support your club for what will be a very exciting day.
To update you all, we have currently sold 30 tables with
tentative reservations for others and there are only 12
tables left. Tables will be allocated on a first come
first served basis, so do not miss out on what promises
to be a great day. We will also have a coaches night out
with the chaps on Friday 10th June with more
details to follow.
Please also read
the Good Coach
and then the Good Parent Guide as issued by the RFU; please do not be offended
- these
were written by an English committee after all, however,
they make good sense.
We would like those that do not have kit or those
wishing to register to turn up 30 minutes before their
allotted kick off time and ask for Bob Merrigan - yes,
that rather silly man who can usually be spotted wearing
bright pink shorts...
As last year we have decided to run three competitions
this year, 7’s Cup Weekend, 10’s Cup Weekend and a
League. All the dates for these will be shown on the
tentative fixtures list below which will be firmed up in
the coming weeks and we would like as much family input
as possible and plan to hold some BBQ’s.

The aim
of the Lions league is to give the children a chance to
display their skills, run around in a lovely environment
at Bangkok Patana, which the Thailand Tigers Aussie
rules team call the MCG of Thailand, and to spend
Saturday morning with the family. Parents do please let
us have your thoughts - but remember, this is not a
democracy so don’t be too offended if your comments are
ignored! Please come on the field and help coach the
children, someone will help you if you have not done it
before, stay for the BBQ's so that the committee can get
a feedback as to how it is all going.
It is essential you turn up for Warm Up and Coaching
Sessions, if not you will find yourself on the bench or
doing fitness during the game - remember, that you are
part of a team and a large link is missing if you are
not there learning what everyone else is.
Again a big thank you to our sponsors.
