The Lions Re-Awaken

Dear All,

Welcome back from Songkhran, trust it was wet!

The Bangkok Lions League Kicks Off this Saturday, the 23rd April. In week 1 we will try and sort the teams out, although with a lot of people still on holiday we may be short of players this week.

Please be patient - week 1 will be madness as last year but we will get through it. Remember, we are all volunteers!

A very good effort to all boys and girls - we have reached 180 signed up children this year, and still more are coming.

Please also read the Good Coach and then the Good Parent Guide as issued by the RFU; please do not be offended - these were written by an English committee after all, however, they make good sense.

We are honoured to have our Head Coach Eddie Evans, who as well as having won 50 Caps for Canada is also a grade 3 Coach, Eddie will be ably assisted by a host of other coaches, including School Teachers , British Club Players , Southerners Players and Dads who have played a bit before. If all coaches and assistant coaches could come early for a briefing by Adrian
.

We would like everyone to turn up at least 30 minutes before you age group starts. We will issue kit on the day we will only issue kit to those that have paid, since some parents forgot to pay last year.

As last year we have decided to run three competitions this year, 7’s Cup Weekend, 10’s Cup Weekend and a League. All the dates for these will be shown on the fixtures list to be issued later, we would like as much family input as possible so we will also run some BBQ’s which will also be noted.

The aim of the Lions league is to give the Children a chance to display their skills, run around in a lovely environment at Bangkok Pattana, which the Thailand Tigers Aussie rules team call the MCG of Thailand, and to spend Saturday morning with the family. We welcome the input of Parents, please come on the field and help coach the children, someone will help you if you have not done it before. Stay for the BBQ,s so that the committee can get a feedback as to how it is all going.

This Saturday you will see the start times on the Fixtures list however be at BKK Patana Sports Fields at the following times:
  • Up to 8 years old: Start 9.00 a.m. but please be there at 8.30 a.m. (1st week only)
  • 9- 12 years old: Start 10.00 a.m. but please be there at 9.30 a.m. (1st week only)
  • 13 years old and above: Start 10.45 a.m. but please be there at 10.15 a.m. (1st week only)

I will give you your kit, which will be located by the Coffee area, which consists of:

  • Playing Shirt, Shorts and Socks
  • Club T-Shirt

You will need to bring BOOTS and SUN CREAM.

It is essential you turn up for Warm Up and Coaching Sessions, if not you will find yourself on the bench or doing fitness during the game, remember that you are part of a team and a large link is missing if you are not there learning what everyone else is.

Again a big thank you to our sponsors - major sponsors are:

  • Bangkok General Hospital
  • Caledonia Asia

  • Land Rover

  • Transpo International

  • ACH Construction Cost Consultants

  • Bangkok Barbeque Center
